2018 Annual Masterpoint Race Winners

John Fabian (5-20), Bob Dunham (50-100), Deborah Goldsmith (500-1000), Murray Warmath (1500-2500), Elaine Chan (2500-3500), and Jason Feldman (3500-5000), convincingly won their Mini-McKenney brackets. John Fambian (5-20) crossed ahead of Nicholas Adamski from Goleta, CA to win the district level Mini-McKenney. Deborah Goldsmith (500-1000) placed second at the district level. Ramey Farah (200-300) won the district level Ace of Clubs and Wayne Sottosanti (20-50) placed second.

Several San Diego unit members placed well in the district rankings. Charles and Majorie O’Malley (both 1000-1500) took the top two ranks with 373.83 and 372.08 MP respectively. Jim Johnsen (3500-5000) won his bracket and Dorn Bishop took fifth in the same bracket. Andy Loh (5000-7500) placed third. And the top six slots of the 7500-10000 bracket were all taken by locals: Mac Busby, Paul Darin, Phyllis Yates, Rick Roeder, Sam Madison-Jammal, and Jon Wright. Tim Flaherty (10,000+) won the district level Ace of Clubs.

The Mini-McKenney counts total masterpoints earned for the year and the Ace of Clubs counts only masterpoints earned at clubs as opposed to sectionals, regionals, and nationals. There are multiple brackets for each race based on the number of masterpoints a player has at the start of the year. Starting this year the ACBL split the former 1000-2500 and 2500-5000 brackets into two separate brackets.
